heartbreaker

today's the first time i witnessed first hand how a catfish was killed. i've read the term 'killed by blow to the head' many times in journals...but i have never ever seen it before and i have never given it much thought either.

it did shock and scare me seeing the fish being knocked on the head with a hammer. but i guess it's quite normal to some of u guys! ;)

how true j...it's cruel but it's a reality...

check out some of the few methods our fish labs practice in the name of science:
-decapitation (yes...potong the kepala when the poor thing is still alive)
-frozen till dead
-abortion...(those doing study on reproduction shud know wat i meant)

above all...mass homicide would be the sin of us all....

huhuhuhu.....

"serial tilapia killers"...that's what we fisheries students called ourselves back in tganu. why? every week, we would have a few lab classes that require us to dissect the tilapia for various reasons (that fish is cheap ma). the metal rod method works like a charm everytime! i personally have killed at least 1000 tilapias to this day.... :P

...looks like we have many serial killers around!

metal rod?? don't think i want to witness that...

i think we had one practical class which required us to 'squeeze' the tilapia for their blood...those poor fishies!

kshern said...

erm...technically, i think you are not suppose to squeeze the blood out...

i remember that amali...must squeeze the blood out la.i think something about blood circulation in vertebrate animals,or sumthing to that effect lah...can't remember properly lah.....

yes, squeeze!
and it's your boss who taught us that class...ahem...

i can't remember what the experiment was about either, but i remember there was some centrifugation involved...i guess all the gruesomeness made us forget the actual point of the experiment...

is this in zoology class one? the amali on osmotic regulation? if it is, then memang you kenot squeeze the blood out la....must let it drip. i ajar that class 3 tahun d! :P

oh, there was this one time...the lab assistant wrapped a keli with cloth, grabbed hold of the tail and slam the head on the table! how's that for gruesome! :P

harhar...
must be we all malas wait the blood drip so slow, then we all squeeze,squeeze.....
=P
did the fish died instantly or what??if tak mati lagi wif the 1st blow then i can imagine the lab asst.banging the fish again n again...use hammer la...duh...
tell dat lab asst to imagine, the keli slamming his head on a table..how's that for a change?
