ABSTRACT
The necessity for and the current issues that are faced by aquaculture are identified. The roles that geneticists could play in alleviating the problems defined are suggested. The utilization of practical biotechnological tools with special emphasis on molecular genetic markers in helping the efforts to improve the status of the aquaculture industry in Malaysia would be discussed.
